Please Help. I’m ready to have my novel printed, but have yet to find a printer in Great Vancouver. Please recommend print-on-demand companies. The book is 500 pages, 5.5. X 8.5, soft-cover, 50-60 stock. I’m looking at around $8/copy
for 100 to start. Thanks,

Yes, I loved our Editing Immersion Workshop too. I wish they offered a follow-up version, because I’d take it.

I agree. It does help to see things from another person’s perspective. For example, it is good to understand how vulnerable a writer might feel after getting his/her marked-up manuscript back from the editor.

Hi Marlene,
I so enjoyed my “writing summer camp” last summer. Plus you get to meet lots of great people – and talk endlessly about stuff that would bore your friends and family members to death. As a writer, I actually got a whole lot out of the editing classes as well. Helps to know how editors think…if one could ever claim to know such a thing.

Absolutely right about me having to sell 2,000 books before making any money. 300 gone so far which isn’t bad for the first two months of publication by an unknown first novelist. The promotion is a killer though, not financially but in amount of time spent. But it’s beginning to pay off with really good blogger reviews and Tweets at #edithswar. See latest blog June 10th, at http://edithswarselfpublish.com. It’s the 70th anniversary of the internment of Italians in UK and Canada, during WWII. Which is a central event in ‘Edith’s War.’

Hey – glad you’ve been following Andrew’s progress – I’m hoping Quill and Quire will do a follow-up story now the book’s been published.

What can I say – it’s a good thing I didn’t know the average self-published novel sells only 50 copies when I first started working with Andrew on social media marketing and traditional PR. We set a target of minimum sales of 2000 copies and I believe we’re at least a quarter of a way there. But I’ll let Andrew tell you more about it himself. Thanks for posting this notice about the Creative Blender workshop, Marlene. This Marlene greatly appreciates it! The workshop was a nice little jumpstart for the brain. Great, practical, accessible writing exercises to get the creative juices flowing. By my estimation, there were at least 30 aspiring writers in attendance, all with varying experience and interests. Daniel and Elee were fabulous facilitators too. I, personally, don’t have a manuscript for you to edit just yet, but I am incubating some new sketch ideas! And who knows? Maybe one of the other participants’ work will find its way to your desk in the near future. =)
